Why Photographers Love Eagle Dancer Resort's Saltwater Pool Overlooking Red Rocks

When we built Eagle Dancer Resort in 1969, architect Bob McIntyre positioned our saltwater pool at the cliff's edge to capture the light. Photographers arrive early to catch how sunrise reflects off Thunder Mountain and Coffee Pot Rock while our mother-of-pearl inlay catches every shift in the sky.
Why Eagle Dancer's Pool Creates Unforgettable Wedding Photos
Photographers appreciate Eagle Dancer for two things. First, the saltwater system keeps the surface calm and glassy, so your portraits reflect the red rocks without chlorine haze or chemical ripples. Second, we built the pool within a natural vortex on one of Sedona's strongest energy points, which means you're standing on sacred land with panoramic views that extend across the entire valley.
The Cliffside Advantage
When you stand on the pool deck, you see Sugarloaf Mountain, Devil's Kitchen, and the Seven Sacred Pools trail system. Photographers use the pool's edge to frame couples against the horizon, and because we're an adult-only resort with only five accommodations, your session never competes with other guests.
How Light Moves Through the Day
Eagle Dancer Resort opens the pool at 7am, and sunrise shoots are our most requested time slot. The red rocks glow amber and copper as the sun climbs, and the saltwater reflects that warmth without the artificial blue of chlorinated pools. By midday, the light sharpens, and shadows define the ridgelines. Late afternoon brings softer tones, and by sunset, the rocks turn crimson while our pool mirrors the changing sky. Photographers work until midnight if they want to capture starlight on water.
The Mother of Pearl Detail
Bob McIntyre inlaid mother of pearl into the pool's interior, and that detail does something unexpected in photos. The shells catch and scatter light differently than standard plaster or tile, so the water looks alive in every frame. When we host weddings, we keep the pool deck clear of furniture during portrait sessions so the natural textures and the red rock backdrop dominate the composition.
Access to 14+ Hiking Trails Directly from Property
Photographers who want variety don't need to drive. Sugarloaf Mountain, Devil's Kitchen, and Teacup trails all start from our property, so you can shoot poolside at sunrise and hike to a canyon floor for midmorning portraits without losing light. We're the only luxury resort in Sedona with trail access this direct, and because we require a three-night minimum stay for weddings and a full property buyout, your couple has the freedom to explore without rushing.
Full Property Buyout for Weddings
We require a full property buyout for weddings, which means your couple reserves all five accommodations and has complete privacy. Up to 30 guests can attend, and we don't impose time limits on the wedding day itself. Ceremonies, cocktails, and receptions happen wherever makes sense for your shot list, and because we only host 15 weddings annually, you're working with a team that knows how light moves through the property.
Conclusion
We're the only full spa in all of Sedona, which means photographers can document wellness experiences that other venues can't offer. Our aromatherapy steam room opens at 4pm and stays available until midnight. The hot tub and dry sauna run from 7am to midnight. We offer crystal bowl sound baths, Reiki sessions, and couples massages in private therapy rooms.
We've hosted weddings, engagements, anniversaries, honeymoons, and corporate charters, and every review we've ever received has been five stars. Photographers who've worked here keep coming back because the views never repeat.
