Huib’s Fall‘24 Wine Recommendations for Wine Tasting in Sedona
Which wines are you recommending for the fall season? For this fall season the first wine I am recommending the Front Porch, 2015 Rhone Blend, from Healdsburg, CA. Rhone blends are typically a classical blend of Grenache, Mourvedre and Syrah.
Why? This is a South Rhone blend which means that it is a little more elegant, delicate, fruit driven with a nice soft tannin structure. The main tones are red berry fruit, light tobacco and leather with a light smokiness and a slight peppery element in the after taste, this makes it ideal as we move from Summer into Fall as it has enough body to go with a slight cooler temperature but enough freshness to keep it lively and would pair very well with any kind of white meats and lean pork and pastas with red sauces and sage or fennel sausages or with a delicious eggplant parmesan.
What's your second wine recommendation? For the second wine I am recommending the 2019 Sunce Sangiovese from Carneros/Sonoma, CA “Circle Bar Ranch” which is 100% Sangiovese.
Why? Sangiovese is a grape from Italy that possesses light fruit and high intensity of acidity with a low tannin structure as well. This one is beautifully made with a touch of bitter almond, it is a fruit driven wine with an incredible freshness, although it also has some tobacco and dried cherry as a backbone. The tannins are playful (i.e. not too hard and not too soft) and this would pair excellently with most Italian dishes such, pastas, salads with grilled chicken, and also vegetable and tomato based soups.
P.s. while I am recommending wines from specific vineyards here, they may be harder to find as they are from smaller vineyards, older vintages and limited production. However other wines of the same varietals can also be explored, look for wines with some age (2019 or older) and from smaller vineyards, also you can always discuss recommendations at your local wine shop, it’s a great way to learn more about world of wine!
At Eagle Dancer Sedona, you can enhance your stay by adding on a wine tasting experience with sommelier Huib and enjoy some charcuterie and good times with your significant other or solo.
Our resort was recently featured on the CBS Destination Channel show “Staycation" and you can see a brief moment from Casa Amor where we hold our wine tasting events by the fireplace. You can watch the video here.
